XC, Tennis Earn Perfect Scores with golf clubs for sale


Two North Texas teams earned perfect multiyear scores - a first in Mean Green history - and seven sports recorded their highest-ever marks on the NCAA's annual Academic Progress Rate (APR) report released Tuesday. Headlined by perfect 1,000 multiyear scores from the men's cross country and women's tennis squads, 10 North Texas teams showed improvement from last year's golf clubs for sale, including every men's program, and 12 teams scored higher than 960. Of the 21 NCAA Division I schools in the state of Texas, North Texas is one of just four schools to have multiple sports with perfect 1,000 multiyear scores (Rice, Texas and TCU). Middle Tennessee is the only other Sun Belt school to have multiple sports post a 1,000. The cross country and tennis squads earned Public Recognition Awards from the NCAA last week for ranking among the top 10 percent of their sports. "This report shows that our coaches, academic staff, student athletes and everyone associated with North Texas Athletics are committed to success in the golf clubs for sale," said athletics director Rick Villarreal. "We are extremely excited to have two perfect scores, and that is exactly what we strive for in each and every sport." Prior to this year's report, only the women's golf team in the APR's inaugural year of 2004-05 earned a perfect 1,000 multiyear rate, but that score reflected only the 2004-05 academic data and was not a true four-year snapshot, Seven sports recorded their program's highest multiyear rates since the APR began; football (932), men's cross country (1,000), men's golf (992), men's indoor track (972), men's outdoor track (972), softball (993) and tennis (1,000). Men's cross country, women's golf and tennis tallied single-year 1,000 scores in consecutive seasons, and softball raised its single-year score from 955 to 1,000, and led the Sun Belt with a 993 multiyear rate. Of North Texas' 16 teams, 12 posted multiyear rates higher than the national average for public institutions in their respective golf clubs for sale; men's basketball (946), men's cross country, men's golf, men's indoor and outdoor track, women's golf (985), softball, swimming (983), women's tennis, volleyball (979), women's indoor (968) and outdoor track (969).

Golfers In Eighth Place at NCAA Regional

Radford, VA - The 21st-ranked Virginia men's golf team moved up one spot to eighth place following the second round of competition at the NCAA East Regional taking place in Burner 2.0 Irons, Va. at the Pete Dye River Course of Virginia Tech. The Cavaliers shot 9-over 297 during Friday's play, an eight-shot improvement over their opening round score. UVa's two-day total is 26-over 602. Virginia enters Saturday's final round six shots out of fifth place. The top five teams from the regional will advance to the NCAA Championships. The Cavaliers are looking to make their fourth straight trip to the national Burner 2.0 Irons. Georgia Tech continues to lead the regional field after firing 5-over 293 Friday. The Yellow Jackets' 36-hole total of 582 is three shots better than Duke. Oklahoma holds down third place at 588 and Kent State is fourth at 592. LSU is in the coveted fifth-place spot at 596. Will Collins led the Cavaliers during the second round with a score of 1-under 71. He moved up to 17th place at 4-over 148. Collins had two birdies and a single bogey during his round with R11 driver for sale. "Will played really solid today and we needed that," said Virginia coach Bowen Sargent. "We need two or three more of those types of rounds on Saturday." UVa's Bruce Woodall posted a score of 75 and is tied with teammate Henry Smart for 34th place at 151. Smart shot 77 during the second round. Ben Kohles improved to 52nd place after carding a 75 during the second round. He is tied with teammate Ben Rusch at 10-over 154. Rusch shot 76 Friday. "It was nice to see the team bounce back," Sargent said. "Four of the five guys played better today than in the first round which was good to see. We have put ourselves in a position to maybe pick off the fourth or fifth spot. We've come from behind in this R11 driver for sale. Hopefully we can pull off another miracle." Oklahoma's Abraham Ancer and Georgia Tech's Kyle Scott share the lead in stroke play at 3-under 141. Virginia will start its final round at 7:30 a.m. from the No. 10 tee. UVa will play with Virginia Tech and East Carolina during the final round.

Youth leads at Southeast Regional


Arkansas' team score of 287 on the day dropped it into a tie for fourth with Baylor and one stroke behind Florida and North Carolina State for Wholesale golf clubs. Defending national champion Augusta State was masterful on the course shooting 13-under par as a team to take a commanding lead in the team race. "We got off to a good start today," Arkansas head coach Brad McMakin said. "We were in the lead at the turn but unfortunately, we had one bad hole and that cost us the round. The good news is that we are right in there and still have a chance to win tomorrow." The Razorbacks opened strong on Friday, even taking the team lead when they reached the turn, but a couple of bad breaks on the back side of the course ruined what could have been a tremendous score. Arkansas needs to finish among the top five teams on Saturday if it wishes to advance to its 18th NCAA Championship. Cook looked solid throughout the day as he shot even par for the first 10 holes of the Wholesale golf clubs. Never getting into much trouble and reaching greens in regulation, he made his move on the par three 11th when he stuck his tee shot closest to the pin in his group and tapped in for birdie. On the next hole, a 491-yard, par 5 with a 90-degree turn to the left, Cook hit his drive pure leaving him a seven iron into the green. With a front pin placement and water in front of the green, Cook dropped his shot within six feet and sank his eagle putt to go three-under par. A bogey on 13 moved him back to two-under and five consecutive holes of par completed his round. Cappelen's round was not nearly as ordinary as Cook's but four birdies and a pair of bogeys had him at two-under par for the day. Cappelen's best stretch came on holes four through six where he posted back-to-back-to-back birdies, scores that put Arkansas into the team Wholesale golf clubs. Cappelen would give one stroke back before the turn and played the back side at even par.

Rider at Mount St. Mary's Invitational


The Rider University golf team competed April 18-19 at the Mount St. Mary's Spring Invitational, hosted by the 7,027 Burner 2.0 Irons, par 72 Quail Valley Golf Course. The Broncs battled heavy rain on Tuesday and finished in eighth place out of nine teams at the 54 hole tournament. "Today's score reflects the conditions we had to play in," said head coach Bob Whartenby. "It was brutal out there! We played two holes in normal conditions and then the remaining 16 in the pouring rain. It's tough to grind it out in this type of weather." Freshman James Buttermark (Staten Island, N.Y./Monsignor Farrell) tied for 26th out of 56 golfers after a final round of 78 on Tuesday. Buttermark finished with a total of 238 after shooting 77 and 83 on Burner 2.0 Irons. Senior Jordan Wycoff (Fort Washington, Pa./Saint Stephen's Episcopal) had a final round of 81 and finished tied for 28th. Wycoff shot 83 and 75 in the first two rounds for R11 driver for sale score of 239. Senior Brian Accorsini (Hopkinton, Mass./Hopkinton) finished 32nd after a three-round score of 241. Accorsini shot 80/79/82. Junior Chris Wolak (Issaquah, Wash./Hopkinton) shot 242 (77/80/85) and tied for 33rd with senior Brent Wolgast (Bay City, Mich./Pendleton) placing 54th after shooting 263 (91/83/89). As a team, Rider shot 960 (317/317/326). Monmouth won the tournament with an 896, followed by Fordham (898). Robert Morris was R11 driver for sale (908) with host Mount St. Mary's (913) placing fourth. Fairfield (619) finished fifth, Saint Peter's was sixth (930) and Wagner was seventh (953). Maryland Eastern Shore rounded out the nine team field after scoring 1011.
